COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This two-day program is designed to help school leaders increase their knowledge and skills in leading effective change in their schools and districts. Leaders seek changes in students’ performance, but often fail to achieve the desired results. In order to change student results, there must be a change in teaching practices, and skilled leaders must set up systems to implement the changes.
ISLLC Standard 2 states that “A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.” This workshop is designed to increase the skills of leaders to understand what effective professional development is as defined by Learning Forward and to implement it.
During the course, participants will focus on a school specific goal and will use the eight key steps to implementing change as outlined by Jodie Spiro in her book, Leading Change, “Step-by-step Tactics, Tools, and Tales” to analyze and prepare for an effective change. They will be exposed to an additional web based resource, “Success at the Core,” to assist with the change process.
1. Participants will develop a common vocabulary and understanding of change process, as defined by Leading Change by Jody Spiro.
2. Participants will have the knowledge of the standards for effective professional development as defined by Learning Forward.
3. Participants will have the skills and resources to successfully implement the series of eight essential tactics for securing change.
